Our History

In 1965, Minneapolis was not alone when the riots had broken out in 150 of Americas largest cities.  In 1970 a building on Plymouth Avenue had been damaged from the fires that were set during the riots in Minneapolis, however, the building was not completely destroyed.  The total size of the site was approximately 26,325 square feet.

January of 1970, Reverend Louis Walton, Reverend Gloria Walton and Reverend Dwight Palmquist along with the Minnesota District Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Reverend Herman Rhode, and the Minnesota District Secretary/Treasurer, Kenneth Freiheit, purchased the building to establish a church on the north side of Minneapolis.  Reverend Palmquist received a call from God in 1971 to become a missionary to the Philippine Islands.  Reverend Dwight Palmquist passed away Tuesday March 31st 2020 in the Philippine Islands.

Trinity was a church governed by the By-Laws of the Minnesota District Council from 1970 to 1987.  When Trinity had a large enough congregation, it no longer had status as a District Council church due to Trinity's church growth.  Trinity now had status as an affiliated Assemblies of God church governed by the Constitution and By-Laws of the General Council of the Assemblies of God.

Wednesday, March 11, 1987 at 7:00 p.m. a church business meeting was held for the purpose of incorporating under the act of the Legislature of the State of Minnesota.  The Articles of Incorporation were drawn up and filed.  The Certificate of Incorporation was received from the State of Minnesota on April 19 1989.

Trinity Tabernacle's congregation experienced remarkable growth and outgrew the building. After a church business meeting it was determined that Trinity Tabernacle needed a larger church. There was much prayer and fasting involved before deciding to build a larger church from the ground up. It was suggested that a "new" church could be buildt right over the "old" church building since it was a flat type of building. The church members continued to pay their tithes and offerings and also contributed to the building fund.  We claimed the properties and land between Queen Avenue North and Russell Avenue North at Plymouth Avenue North. Those 6 houses on the block were purchased by Trinity than torn down including several huge elm trees, in order to build the "new" church.  After 40 days of prayer and fasting by Pastor Louis Walton, Pastor Gloria Walton, and Trinity Tabernacle's members 2 very large monetary donations were given to help boost Trinity Tabernacle's building fund. Shortly thereafter, the "new" church was buildt. Also, many church members and volunteers came out and helped and roofers from an Assemblies of God church, in Minneapolis put the roof on the "new" church.  God had miraculously intervened in our situation here at 2314 Plymouth Avenue North and we give all the Glory to God because HE did it.   We are still here!
